Bathrooms, ensuites and laundries are hard on window coverings. Steam from a hot shower gets into everything, and timber blinds or fabric curtains in that environment will eventually swell, warp or grow mould. Our PVC plantation shutters don't absorb water, so they hold their shape and their colour in a room that gets damp several times a day. When they need cleaning, a wipe with a damp cloth does it.

» Bathrooms and Ensuites:
This is the hardest room in the house for a window covering. A shower running twice a day puts warm, wet air straight onto the window, and PVC shutters handle it without swelling or lifting at the joints. You also get privacy at the same time, which is why bathrooms are the most common room we fit them in.
» Laundries:
Washing machines and dryers push out a lot of humidity, and laundry windows are usually small and close to a bench. PVC louvres wipe clean of detergent splash and lint, and they won't sag on you the way a fabric blind does once it has absorbed moisture a few hundred times.
» Kitchens:
Steam off the cooktop carries grease with it, and that is what ruins blinds and curtains above a sink. Our shutters wipe down with warm soapy water, and because PVC isn't porous the way fabric is, cooking smells don't settle into them.
Why We Recommend PVC Over Timber in Wet Areas
We make plantation shutters in timber, PVC and aluminium, and for anything near water we'll steer you towards PVC. Timber looks beautiful in a living room, but it is a natural material. It takes on moisture, and over a few years of shower steam that shows up as swollen panels, lifted paint and louvres that no longer tilt cleanly. PVC holds its dimensions instead.
