PLANTATION SHUTTERS SYDNEY
Plantation Shutters for Sydney Homes
We supply and install plantation shutters for homes and businesses across Sydney. Plantation shutters suit Sydney's mix of climates better than most window coverings — a beachside apartment and a house up in the mountains need different things from their windows, and a fixed louvre that adjusts does both jobs without swapping products room to room.

What Plantation Shutters Actually Do for a Sydney Home
Sydney's weather swings between a genuinely hot summer, a mild but damp winter, and a lot of days in between — here's where plantation shutters earn their keep rather than just looking good:
Cuts energy use, not just heat. Closed louvres create an insulating air pocket against the glass, so a room holds warmth in winter and stays cooler in summer without the air conditioning running constantly.
Adjustable light and privacy in the same motion. Tilt the louvres instead of choosing between a curtain that's open or shut — you get exactly as much light as you want, at any angle, without losing privacy from the street or a neighbouring balcony.
Built to withstand Sydney's diverse weather. Made with high-quality materials in our Adelaide factory, our plantation shutters handle coastal salt air, harbourside humidity and mountain cold equally well — the difference is which material we recommend for which spot, not whether shutters can cope.
Different Housing, Same Approach
A bay window in a Bondi apartment and a full-height sliding door out past Penrith get quoted and built the same way — just to different dimensions — because every shutter is made to measure rather than pulled off a shelf. That's what makes fitting such a spread of housing straightforward for us.
Picking a Material That Actually Suits Sydney
Sydney's climate isn't extreme in any one direction, which is exactly why the choice of material usually comes down to where in the house the shutters are going rather than the weather outside. For most interior rooms, imported PVC covers the basics well: it won't warp or discolour, it wipes clean, and it's the most affordable way to get real plantation shutters rather than a blind dressed up to look like one.
For anything outside — alfresco areas, north-facing entertaining spaces, anywhere the shutters sit in direct weather rather than behind glass — aluminium is the better call. It's powder-coated, it doesn't corrode, and because it mounts outside the window rather than behind it, it stops heat before it ever reaches the glass, which matters more on a 35-degree January afternoon than people expect.
Living With Them Day to Day
The adjustable louvres are the whole point. Tilt them mostly closed and you get privacy without blacking out the room; open them flat and you get the view and the light back. A lot of our Sydney customers use them in west-facing living rooms specifically to cut the glare off the TV in the afternoon without drawing curtains across the whole wall.
They're not a full blackout solution on their own — some light filters through the louvre gaps and around the frame, so if a bedroom or home theatre needs to go properly dark, we'd usually suggest pairing shutters with a block-out blind behind them rather than relying on the shutters alone. Where they do outperform almost everything else is bathrooms and kitchens: PVC doesn't take on moisture the way timber does, so shower steam and cooking humidity don't cause the swelling or lifted paint you'd eventually get with a painted timber shutter.
Custom-Made, Not Cut From Stock
Sydney has more than its share of bay windows, arched openings and non-standard frames, especially in the older inner suburbs, and none of that is a problem here. Every shutter is measured and manufactured to exact millimetre tolerances for the actual window in front of us, not trimmed down from a standard size — arched and bay windows are quoted individually rather than turned away. Installation is handled by our own trained team, not a subcontractor, so the person who measures your windows is accountable for how the finished job looks.
One trade-off worth mentioning: the fixed louvres do limit your outward view compared to a blind or curtain you can pull fully out of the way. Most people decide the light control and privacy are worth it, but it's the kind of thing better raised before installation than after.
Worth Knowing Before You Book a Measure
Plantation shutters cost more upfront than blinds or curtains, and if budget is the only factor, they're not always the right answer — that's just honest. What you're paying for is a fixture that typically lasts fifteen to twenty-five years with next to no maintenance, and Sydney real estate agents generally treat them as a feature that adds to a property's value rather than something a buyer expects ripped out. Whether that trade-off makes sense for your place is a fair question to put to us directly when we come out to measure.

Plantation Shutters You Can Trust
We measure each window individually rather than working off a standard size, so a cosy Inner West apartment and a house on the Northern Beaches both get shutters cut exactly to fit — not close enough.
Our Sydney team, based in Wyong, services Palm Beach in the north down to Cronulla in the south, and Bondi in the east across to Penrith and the Blue Mountains in the west. Sydney's coastal winds, intense UV and unpredictable seasonal storms are why powder-coated aluminium exterior plantation shutters hold up so well on harbourside and coastal properties, resisting corrosion and fading.
